May is a Busy Month
Greetings and welcome to the new subscribers!

Cool weather plants and seeds are going in the ground in the beginning of the month, and we'll wrap it up with warm weather plantings as May closes out. It's a hectic time as we also divide perennials, deadhead daffs and tulips, maybe cut the grass (especially after these upcoming rains...), and start some serious weeding. Put your trellises in place before you plant, and be sure your irrigation is working.

My hydrant was leaking in April. It was unforeseen and the timing was awful. But it had to be repaired, not only because of all the nursery plants, but also because I couldn't plant my vegetables until it was taken care of and I could water daily. So yeah, make sure everything is working before you need it!

Summer CSA Shares
|
Summer Share pick-up will be the last week of May. I'll send out a notification. There will be some extra tomatoes, basil, and flowers. It'll be very random. I haven't decided on a plant sale yet. We growers seem to be pants-ing it this year and not making a lot of long-range plans. But we'll let you know what's going on when WE know!

Spring Plant Sale Pics

We worried about the weather for weeks. Ok, maybe months. It was touch and go for days leading up to the sale. Rain would be better than snow, but sun would be best, and that's what we got. Phew. In the Yard and the Greenhouse
|
Since April was so warm, things began to bloom early. This scrawny little lilac came out two weeks early. I've never seen lilacs bloom at the same time as the Cistena plum. They usually replace it! These are the two most delicious fragrances of the season! Now all at once! There are incredible blooms on both this year.

The zinnias have been thinned and are ready to take off. They'll be perfect in time for planting.
|

I worried about the tomato starts this year, but these gallons are right on track to be gorgeous by the time of pick-up.
|
|
|
|
I only know what's on track and when because I WRITE SHIT DOWN! And I take a lot of pictures. When I worry, I go back through my garden journals and photos to see what the greenhouses were like in previous years. There's no guessing. It's all been recorded!
