Get Ready to Plant!

We're almost there! Despite some really extreme cold spells, the winter has been warm on average. Hopefully, the 15º nights are gone for the season. The weather this past week made me really nervous, but your plants are safe!

This week, we started adding alpaca manure to the garden beds and removing grass from the pathways. We'll lay cardboard and bark mulch to keep down the grass and make a more level surface for walking on.

We've been dumping fresh chicken shit into the compost pile to get it to break down faster. I did this on two piles last fall, and they're now ready to be added to the beds. Otherwise, I'd still be waiting on them to decompose! Making compost in the desert isn't as easy as it is in temperature regions where there's rain and humidity. Read Transforming Dirt into Soil in the March chapter of The Book to learn more about compost.

Book Signing and 9th Annual Spring Plant Sale!

I'll be doing another book signing at nannie plants' 9th Annual Spring Plant Sale, Saturday, April 29 at Earthgoods, 11-2. There will be herb, flower, and vegetable starts, seeds, house plants, trees, and shrubs. Rain, snow, or shine!

This is always a great party, a place to connect with growers and gardeners. It used to just be me selling plants outside ReThreads or More Pieces. Then it was me, Kristen, and a woman from Alamosa at Vagrant Heart. A few more people joined us at Earthgoods a few years ago, and now it's become a small farmers market!

The best way to support me is to buy from me, locally, or from the publisher. My cut is greatly reduced when you buy from third-party websites or stores I don't deal with directly. Thank you for your business and unending support!
